Homebrew Games

(Ordered by release date.)

Many games/tools are only released in 'plain files' format (elf/srec/bin). These can either be transferred to the dreamcast via serial cable/bba/lan or by making them into a self-bootable cd. This can be done using one of a variety of self-boot toolkits that are available. Go to our forums to request any further help you may need.
Any discjuggler / nero images distributed may just be burnt directly to cd (using discjuggler/nero) and they should boot up without problems (or any swapping needed) on a dreamcast.
Anyone with the skills to make (and test) dj/nrg images, feel free to help out and send in any 'missing' images.

Bloop
Updated: 17-Feb-2003
By: Warmtoe
What's new since version 10/02/03: Sound support
Info: A light-gun shooting game - targets appear and you have to 'shoot' them.
  • Added some extra game elements (10/02/03)
  • Supports the dc gun but only seems to work reliably if it's plugged into port D.
  • Supports analogue controller.
  • Supports up to 4 players - at the moment it just keeps track of your hits... but there will be lots, lots more.

    Spacewar
    Released: 16-Feb-2003
    By: Tangent
    Info: A 2-player asteroids-style game...
"Your ship will fade as it takes damage. When you're out of health, you teleport to a new, predetermined location. This indicates that you have died. As your shots are fired, they lose effectiveness over time, meaning that hitting an opponent from a distance is much less effective than hitting him up close. The brightness of the shots should let you know how much damage you're doing."
Use the analog stick left/right to rotate the ship (or dpad left/right) and up/down to provide forward/backward thrust (or X/Y), and B to fire the weapon.

    The Feet of Fury
    Released: 16-Oct-2002
    Current Version: Preview/Beta release
    By:
    Cryptic Allusion
    Info:
"The music's pumping. The arrows are flying towards the top of your screen and you're in the groove. Suddenly your opponent cackles and your arrows are going twice as fast and yet more spaced out. You got distracted by the anime cutie in the background, but you've got it covered and now it's their turn -- their arrows are waving around like a bad acid trip and you're both fighting to survive.
Welcome to the wacky world of Feet of Fury, a game in the same vein as Konami(tm)'s ever-popular Dance Dance Revolution(tm) but with a far stronger emphasis on player-vs-player combat."

    Warlord
    Released: 13-Mar-2002
    By: Nathan Whitehead
Info: This game is loosely based on the old warlord game for the Atari 2600. There are 4 castles made up of bricks in the four corners of the screen. At the center of each castle is the crown. Each player has a paddle that rotates around the castle. A ball flies around, and everyone tries to defend against it. A player is out when their crown is hit. Right now it is one human player vs 3 computer players. The ball splits after a time (repeatedly). Press Y after game over to play again.

    Wolfenstein 3D/DC
    Released: 04-Jan-2001
    By:
    crt0
Info: This is a quick port of Wolfenstein 3D to the Dreamcast. This is an early beta, but is still playable. The Shareware version of the data files are available in the ready-to-burn image below. You'll have to buy Wolf3D to get the full version of the game, of course.
What's new: Now supports Spear of Destiny full/demo version. Controller problems fixed. Added support for both controller and keyboard.
    Offsite Link
Note: We have received a "Notice of Infringing Activity" regarding the Wolfenstein 3D downloads from the IDSA. We have therefore taken this offline until we can figure this out. They have basically said nothing specific -- making it very difficult to determine what their concern is with what we believe to be a proper, legal, shareware-only download. We'll keep you informed.

    DC Tonic
    Released: 19-May-2001 (at E3)
By: Various (Cryptic Allusion, Ganksoft, Moving Target Software Design, AndrewK/Napalm)
Info: This hobbyist demo disc was put together and distributed at E3 2001. It includes several game demos, a remake of Dan Potter's Ghetto Pong, a new "Napalm-enchanced" version of AndrewK's Burritro demo, KallistiOS v1.0.0, as well as sourcecode to almost everything. The ca_dc_tonic.zip file is a copy of the original release from Dan Potter. It requires knowledge of making a selfboot disc (after converting the included MP3s to WAVs to burn first). If you don't have that ability (or don't want to take the time), you can use either of the ready-to-burn images.
Note: These are 70MB-83MB each! Do NOT download any more than one of these files! Get the original files zip if you want to make the self-boot yourself or get either of the ready-to-burn images if you want it the easy way -- but don't get more than one as it is just wasted bandwith! They all contain everything -- just in different formats!
